Galway County Council offers several housing grants to assist residents in improving their homes. Here's an overview of the available schemes:

Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability

This grant helps individuals with enduring physical, sensory, mental health, or intellectual impairments make their homes more accessible. Eligible works include:

Access ramps
Downstairs toilet facilities
Stair-lifts or hoists (requires an Occupational Therapist (OT) report)
Accessible showers
Wheelchair access adaptations
Extensions (requires an OT report

Grant Levels:

The grant amount is based on household income and the age of the property:

Annual Household Income ≤ €37,500: 100% of costs up to €40,000
Annual Household Income €37,501 – €43,750: 85% of costs up to €34,000
Annual Household Income €43,751 – €50,000: 75% of costs up to €30
Annual Household Income €50,001 – €62,500: 50% of costs up to €20
Annual Household Income €62,501 – €75,000: 30% of costs up to €12,000
Annual Household Income > €75,000: No grant available

Eligibility:

The grant applies to owner-occupied homes, local authority tenant purchase properties, private rented accommodations, and certain communal residences.

Housing Aid for Older People

This scheme assists homeowners aged 66 or older living in poor housing conditions to carry out necessary repairs or improvements. Eligible works include

Re-roofing (requires confirmation from insurance that repairs aren't covered)
Re-wiring (requires a report from a qualified electrician)
Provision of central heating (where none exists or is beyond repair)
Repairs or replacement of windows and doors (in exceptional circumstances)
Dry-lining.

Grant Amount:

The maximum grant available is €10,700. Eligibility is based on household income, with specific documentation required to verify income sources.

Mobility Aids Grant

This grant covers basic works to address mobility issues, primarily associated with aging. Eligible works include:

Grab rails
Access ramps
Level access showers
Stair-lifts or hoists (requires an OT report)
Other minor works deemed necessary

Grant Amount:

The maximum grant is €8,000 or 100% of the approved cost of works, whichever is lesser. Eligibility is for households with a gross annual income not exceeding €37,500
